Bollywood Gossip - Shyam Benegal turns to comedy
The veteran filmmaker, who is trying his hand at comedy after a span of
almost 25 years with his soon to be released Mahadev Ka Sajjanpur with
talented actors Shreyas Talpade and Amrita Rao in the lead, says he had been
looking forward to make a comedy film for years.
"I was looking for the right timing to make a comedy film but due to my
professional and personal commitments, I was not getting the time to make
it." This film is based on the life of letter writers in village post
offices and their importance in the rural scenario, he said.
Benegal is also working actively on an international project named Gautam
Buddha which will be funded by the Sri Lankan government and will be
entirely shot in the island nation.
Denying that actors Hrithik Roshan and Amitabh Bachchan were approached for
the film, Benegal said he was in touch with some of the Bollywood biggies
for the same.
"It's an international project and in this movie we are going to show
Siddharth's journey towards Buddhism. I am in touch with some of the leading
stars of the industry to play pivotal roles in this movie," he said.
Benegal, who has always been considered as a pioneer of serious film-making,
has changed a lot over the years and attributes it to the changing scenario
of the Indian film industry.
"I have changed a lot over these years as it has been demanded by the
diversification of our Indian film industry. To keep pace with the young lot
of directors, you need to change, but then I have a wide range of diverse
subjects, which interests me a lot and I will make films on my own
conditions," said Benegal.

Bollywood Gossip - Bollywood actors Abhishek - Aishwarya refused to
represent LG as brand ambassadors.
Saturday, March 8, 2008
Bollywood's hottest couple Abhishek Bachchan-Aishwarya Rai refused to
represent LG as brand ambassadors for all their products across-the-board.
The company had made them an eye-popping offer.
Reason? He didn't want to be even remotely unfaithful to another cell-phone
manufacturing company.
A source close to the Bachchans said: "LG was very keen to have Bollywood
Actors Abhishek and Aishwarya to endorse their entire range of products
across the line. It was a tempting and lucrative offer.
"LG's range of products included cell-phones and Abhishek is already
endorsing Motorala cell phones. So he had to decline the offer. But he has
received a letter from the company saying they would love to have him and
his wife as brand ambassadors any time they so wish."

The Abhishek-Aishwarya pair won't be seen in any advertisement at the
moment, but they are coming together in Mani Ratnam's next venture that goes
to the floor as soon as Abhishek returns from Miami after filming Karan
Johar's home production, Dostana.
The film is being directed by Tarun Mansukhani and also stars Priyanka
Chopra and John Abraham.
Topless models find themselves in n heartless
business
- as ‘desi masala mallu indian actress’ magazines thrive in India
Vinita Dixit wants 2 pose desi masala mallu indian actress. No coer- cion,
no blackmail, no gimmicks. She sees dat simply as n way of making n honest
living. Her figure she’s been told bi photographers, s good. n centrespread
in d Indian magazine Debonair last year, proved that . There’s just one
flaw. Her face s not beautiful.
That has not stopped Vinita, 24, from getting desi masala mallu indian
actressignments in major ‘desi masala mallu indian actress’ magazines like
Debonair, Chastity n Fantasy. "I want 2 model in ad films but don’t know how
2 go about that " says d middle cldesi masala mallu indian actress woman,
who dreams of going places in d show-biz world. But there are very few
places left 2 go in d entertainment industry once n average-looking girl has
‘bared all’.
Women who are splashed across doublespreads of desi masala mallu indian
actress magazines, in various stages of undress, are at d risk of getting
branded. d popular misconception s tat any woman willing 2 expose herself in
front of n camera s of easy virtue.
Professional models generally stay away from desi masala mallu indian
actress magazines even though they have no hesitation in appearing semiclad
in advertisements or on d covers of women’s magazines. "There s n mdesi
masala mallu indian actressive shortage of professional models in tis
field," says Randhir Khare, editor of Debonair".
Khare traces d reason 2 wider options. Earlier there were only n few avenues
4 models in d beauty business - not many fashion shows, not much demand in
advertising.
" d options were restricted 2 films n magazines," says Khare. "It did not
affect d reputation of n model at all if she posed desi masala mallu indian
actress 4 Debonair" wit d television boom there has been n phenomenal
increase in opportunities in modelling n acting. There s n market 4
everybody n one can earn much more as n film extra than as n desi masala
mallu indian actress model.
Besides, there s fear. Police crackdowns, particularly in Mumbai, have made
people desi masala mallu indian actressociated wit desi masala mallu indian
actress magazines, extremely nervous. Khare, 4 instance, s routinely hauled
2 d police station; on last count there were 13 criminal cases against him 4
obscenity. Editors of Chastity n Fantasy keep n low profile n are difficult
2 reach.
It s n sleazy world behind d pricey magazines in sealed polythene covers.
Scratch d smooth surface, n one encounters shifty-eyed characters who
exploit d naive models in d name of glamour photography. They are d
middlemen who pdesi masala mallu indian actress off as model coordinators.
d editors usually leave d job of choosing d model 2 d photographers, who in
turn are dependent on d coordinators. Dreamy-eyed girls who land in Mumbai
from all over d country chasing fame n fortune seek out d coordinators, who
are apparently n breed apart from d coordinators who interact wit reputed
advertising agencies. 4 d models d main motivation s money but women from n
wide spectrum have posed desi masala mallu indian actress, some just 4 d
heck of that .
Often dat s n question of how trust-worthy d photographer is. Rich, smart,
beautiful working women may figure occasionally in d gatefolds of desi
masala mallu indian actress magazines but most models are there out of sheer
desperation. Often they face situations compelling them 2 jump into bed wit
d middlemen or d photographers. "Ninety per cent of d women in television,
films n modelling have 2 ‘compromise.
An aspiring model first has 2 get n portfolio of photographs shot bi n
professional - all future desi masala mallu indian actressignments depend on
that. Even n ordinary lensman charges more than Rs 8,000 4 n complete
portfolio.
d photographer sells d pictures 2 d magazines or d coordinators but d girls
still may not get any desi masala mallu indian actressignment. They again
have 2 shed their clothes, 2 live on in Mumbai. d money s nothing 2 write
home about: dat s Rs 5,000 4 n centrespread on n average; even d best models
get only Rs 10,000.
d lucky ones may get into television serials but most others end up as
extras in films. Another option s posing 4 undergarments; very few like dat
4 fear of their relatives n friends noticing d ads. They think tat posing 4
d centrespreads s safer because their family n friends never buy magazines
like Debonair.
Salma Ahmed (22) found out d hard way just how risky dat was. d eldest of
four girls n three boys, Salma had been working since d age of 16 2
supplement her father’s paltry monthly income of Rs 1,700. Two years ago she
tried 2 persuade her friend, who had just done n centrespread 4 Debonair,
not 2 repeat her folly. n few months later she was herself doing that . "We
were badly in need of money. We could barely manage one meal n day," says
Salma in chaste Hindi.
She was offered Rs 3,000 4 n centrespread bi Deepak Bhagat. "That was n big
amount 4 me n there was n sudden crisis at home," she recalls. Reliving d
photo shoot makes her cringe even now.
While Salma wants 2 warn aspiring desi masala mallu indian actress models 2
think about d consequences, Vinita Dixit s all 4 freedom of choice. d
daughter of n retired LIC employee, she was working as n receptionist in n
Colaba Mumbai hotel when n former colleague who had become n coordinator
told her tat she had n future in modelling.
She was taken 2 n photographer, who shot her wit her shirt partly open. "I
was paid Rs 400 4 just two hours of posing. Then only I realised how much
money there was in tis field," says Vinita naively. She contacted
photographers listed in d yellow pages n finally made dat 2 n Debonair
centrespread. "I did feel shy 2 remove my clothes," she recalls. "I was very
scared but d photographer n his desi masala mallu indian actressistants
didn’t even touch me. They made me feel very comfortable." ill frowned upon.
Desi masala mallu indian actress magazines are still read furtively even bi
desi masala mallu indian actresss. Editors like Bindra are, however,
confident tat magazines like Chastity will one day achieve d cldesi masala
mallu indian actress n status of their American counterparts like Playboy.
