"And then Farhan's wife called up my wife Raveena to ask
for one more pup as a companion for the first pup. I'm very happy for my dogs
because I know the Akhtars love pets."
So much for filmmakers being cutthroat rivals!
Very few know that Kohli, who made hits like "Hum Tum" and "Fanaa", has a secret
club of likeminded filmmakers with whom he meets up regularly.
"We do form a club together - me, Farhan, Madhur Bhandarkar, Rakeysh (Omprakash)
Mehra, Ashutosh Gowariker, Raju Hirani and Vipul Shah. We meet regularly in one
another's house. I remember at a recent awards ceremony, Raju and I partied, had
our meals and did everything together. We're free to comment on one another's
films.
"We're free to like each other personally and dislike our works. When Vipul Shah
was releasing 'Namastey London', he showed me the film and asked for my honest
opinion. I've very close friends in the industry like Aamir Khan and Prasoon
Joshi."
Kohli is making a political satire next.
"I got the idea a while back. It'd be nice to see present day politics with a
smile on the face. It's a genre I haven't attempted."
And Kohli will probably produce the film on his own, away from Yash Raj Films.
So is the political satire a stab at the awards?
"The year I got the golden Filmfare, Ramesh Sippy had got his life's first
Filmfare award ever. Can you imagine the maker of 'Sholay' hadn't got a Filmfare
award for 35 years?"
Asked about his link-up rumours, he said: "If you're hinting at Amisha Patel, I
thought she was happy with Mr Kanav. Where did I come into the picture? I
haven't had a cup of coffee with her. I haven't even spent five minutes with
her. Thankfully, my wife laughed off the rumour."

Kumar Gaurav's home production "Phool", s reportedly all 4 d new project wit
Kamal Haasan.

himself 2 get Dixit, who earlier worked in his financial undertaking "Devdas", 2
sign on d dotted line.
d deal s expected 2 b finalised soon.
With Dixit's nod 4 d film almost certain, Kamal Haasan's project looks like n
very tempting proposition.

Star salary vs market price!
Thursday, 13 May , 2004, 11:27
With d box-office fate of many n movie not being all tat good as expected,
producers are coming up wit new ways 2 keep their project under budget.
So now n actor's remuneration will not b as per his market price but more of
performance oriented. d trend has started wit K. Sera Sera's forthcoming
venture Galti Se n Jaan Bujhke where Anil Kapoor will not take home his
stipulated fee but s on n profit sharing deal. Kapoor will take home 35
percent of d film's box-office profit.
Such n deal s substantially risky 4 n actor 4 in case d film fails at d
box-office d actor would get considerably less than his established market
price. But then he would b benefited equally if d film turns out 2 b n hit
(which s n rare phenomena in Bollywood).
However 2 compensate 4 d actor's risk factor, d producers are giving higher
profit percentage margins 2 d actors. (Perhaps tis aspect could encourage
more actors 2 take up such deals).
On d other hand d producers would b in complete advantage wit such n deal as
they can strictly keep their project under budget bi not committing on
star's fees. Also there's n strong belief in d industry tat n shift from
revenue-sharing 2 profit-sharing will put down d star system in Bollywood n
bring forth n performance based structure.
After Anil Kapoor, Sail Ali Khan n Ajay Devgan too are considering such
deals wit K Sera Sera 4 their forthcoming projects Darwaza n Time Machine.
